Domestic Violence And
Depression
More and more people are reporting incidents of domestic
violence to the police every day. If you are a victim of
domestic violence you will understand just how terrifying it
could be. The question that many individuals ask is what are
the reasons of this violence, is the person simply a lunatic or
are there other reasons behind it.
According to the most recent reports alcohol has a big part to
play in causing cases of domestic violence. In the instance of a husband
hitting his wife when he is drunk, this is normally what can
happen. In order
to make this article easier to read let’s call the husband Paul
and his wife Mary.
Paul is a very nice guy when sober. Mary is greatly in love with
him and hopes that they will grow old
together.
Paul is a great father to their two children, is helpful
around the house and is a really good cook. The problem happens
after he has had quite too much to drink. Paul now becomes an
entirely different person and suddenly starts accusing
his wife of having an affair, becomes violent and really
argumentative. Mary, realizing he's
drunk attempts to walk away to leave Paul to his bad
mood.
However, this only adds to his anger and he starts
becoming abusive.
The next morning Paul can't believe what he did and is full of
regret and remorse. He cannot say sorry enough
and asks for Mary's forgiveness. He promises that it will
never happen again and says that he will quit drinking alcohol
if that would make his wife happy.
Mary isn't sure what to do, she would like to forgive and
forget but feels that it is very likely that it will occur
again in the future if she does.
In a lot of domestic violence cases people like Mary will
forgive their partner or husband many times before ultimately
losing patience with them.
My recommendation for Paul would be to stop drinking alcohol
right away. This
appears to be the reason of all of these problems; therefore
you have to find another thing to have an interest
in.
Another cause of domestic violence is also known to be
depression. Some
people who are commonly very relaxed can become very angry and
violent when in a deep state of depression. They could take their
problems and frustrations out on their partner much like in the
example mentioned above.
A few days or weeks later when the person in question is
feeling much happier, they will not believe what they have
done.
Whether it is as a result of depression or alcohol, one
solution to this domestic violence problem could be to attend
some type of anger management program that is for individuals
like Paul.
Regardless of what are the causes of domestic violence, it has
to be identified quickly and help should be provided as soon as
possible in order to stop domestic violence before it turns
into something tragic.
